Meet Dr. Jennifer Mai
Dr. Jennifer Mai received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of Texas in Austin. She then graduated from Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry and moved back to her native city of Houston to pursue her dental career. Dr. Mai is certified in dental sedation, nitrous oxide, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Dr. Mai’s interest in dentistry started when she was in high school and worked for her dentist, sterilizing dental equipment. She enjoyed watching the relationship between her dentist and his patients and loved the immediate satisfaction in taking a patient out of fear and pain.
In college, Dr. Mai had the opportunity to help in various underprivileged areas in Nicaragua and Costa Rica. It was there that her true passion for dentistry developed, and she knew that dentistry was her calling.
In Dr. Mai’s free time, she enjoys going to the park with her husband and son, hiking, yoga, and cycling. She also enjoys traveling to different parts of the world and experiencing different cultures and is a big foodie!
Meet Dr. Samer S. DAR, DDS, MD
Dr. Dar is a native of Spring, Texas. He attended Klein High School and went to college at Southern Methodist University on a scholastic scholarship where he earned a B.S. in Biology. He then went on to earn his dental degree from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. He graduated in the top 15% of his class on the Dean’s honor list. Dr. Dar received numerous awards in Dental School including the prestigious American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Award, Southwest Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons Award and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology Award. After completing his dental degree, Dr. Dar received his medical degree from Stony Brook School of Medicine in New York. He completed a year of General Surgery training and a six-year residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at North Shore-LIJ in New York. During his residency, he obtained extensive training in Craniofacial Surgery, Orthognathic Surgery, Cleft Lip/Cleft Palate repair, Facial Trauma, Facial Reconstruction, Facial Cosmetic Surgery, Head and Neck Pathology, TMJ Surgery and Dental Implants. Dr. Dar is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life Support from the American College of Surgeons and the American Heart Association. Outside of work Dr. Dar enjoys running, reading and most importantly spending time with his family. Dr. Dar is excited about being back home in Texas.
Meet Dr. Lisa Vu, DMD, MPH
Dr. Lisa Vu is a board certified general dentist native to Texas. Her passion for dentistry began while serving Houston’s homeless population. After earning her M.P.H. at the University of Texas School of Public Health and D.M.D. at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health, she can tackle problems using two different perspectives. She is able to promote oral health and deliver compassionate care for an individual and use research methods to identify needs and solutions for a community. As clinical faculty for University of Texas School of Dentistry, she provides mentorship to dental students rotating at TOMAGWA Healthcare Ministries. She is a member of the ADA, GHDS, and TDA and is certified in level one conscious sedation and laser dentistry. Her hobbies include spending time with family and friends, traveling, and hiking.
Meet Dr. Khanh D. Truong, DMD, MSD
Dr. Khanh Truong is a board certified pediatric dentist and truly believes in providing children with the most positive dental experience in order set a solid ground for future dental appointments. Dr. Truong believes that educating children and parents early on about oral hygiene and the early prevention of dental cavities can lead to having life-long healthy teeth. Dr. Truong completed his Doctorate of Dental Medicine at the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Medicine. His passion with working with kids pursued him to complete his advanced specialty education program in pediatric dentistry from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. Dr. Truong is a diplomate of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, Southwestern Society of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association Texas Dental Association, and Texas Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. It is important to Dr. Truong to give back to the community and he has volunteered his services as a Dental operator to the Humanitarian dental Mission to Trona, California and Guatamala. He has also assisted in the Humanitarian Dental Mission to Vietnam and Texas Mission of Mercy. He enjoys taking continuing education classes to keep up to date with the current procedures and research on pediatric dentistry. In his spare time Dr. Truong enjoys swimming, working out, watching sports, and cooking with his wife.
Meet Lam Tran, RDH
Lam Tran was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas. He received his Dental Hygiene Associates degree from Lamar University. His professionalism and passion for patient’s oral health exemplifies the true values of what Restoration Smiles stands for. In Lam’s spare time he enjoys playing with his dog JD, watching Texas sports and cooking. He can make a mean sous vide steak! Lam’s other passion includes building custom furniture from scratch. He has even made the doctor’s desk at Restoration Smiles.
